Singapore Whisky Monthly: A Preview

May is a going to be a big month for sgwhisky as we look to give a more comprehensive coverage of the Singapore whisky scene and we prepare for a bit of a revamp! The first change is already in effect, with the domain name changing to www.sgwhisky.com! More importantly though, sgwhisky is looking to bring up to date news of upcoming events in the whisky scene, and there is no better month to do this than in May, with many great events upcoming this month! Here's two previews to whet your appetite!

Weekly Whisky Tastings @ The Connoisseur Emporium

Last Friday I was graciously invited by Heru, the Executive Manager at The Connoisseur Emporium to their weekly whisky tasting. The reception has been very good for this event, and it is looking to be a regular event in their calender. The focal point of these tastings is simply to educate those who attend about the various Scotch whiskies and the whisky making regions of Scotland. With maps, tasting notes, small exhibits and special Single Cask bottlings of the distilleries in the different regions, these tastings are both special and very informative, great for new whisky lovers and experienced ones alike! I will be posting a detailed review and writeup on the tasting I attended, but for those of you out there who wish to attend these tastings, feel free to contact Heru @ 66342268 and heru@pacificcigar.com.sg.
Places for these tastings are limited, with around 8 per tasting, and come at a cost of $46.

The month of May also plays host to arguably the biggest annual whisky event in Singapore, WhiskyLive 2011. A premier whisky event that is held in most of the world's major whisky-loving cities like London, Paris and Tokyo, WhiskyLive promises to deliver a great, extensive whisky experience for all those that attend it. Whiskylive will be held on the 16th of May 2011, Monday, at One At The Bund @ The Fullerton Bay Hotel, and one can expect to taste great whiskies from Glenlivet, Glendronach and Nikka, as well as Masterclasses from leading experts in the whisky industry. Sgwhisky was informed that a master blender from Nikka whisky will be making the trip down for Whiskylive 2011, so expect some great input if one attends the event! For more information one can visit the event website, www.whiskylive.sg
Tickets for Whiskylive 2011 go for $75 and can be purchased at the event website or at SISTIC.

Keep your eyes on this space as Whiskylive celebrates a truly great May for whisky in Singapore!
