Singapore Whisky Monthly: July 2011

Hey everyone, time flies and here we are again at the start of a new month. It's a tad bit late but here are the ongoing whisky events for the month of July 2011.

Whisky Events

Whisky Tasting @ The Connoisseur Emporium

After a short hiatus, the regular whisky tastings at The Connoisseur Emporium will recommence in July. The first tasting will be on 15th July, Friday. For more information, please contact Heru at The Connoisseur Emporium at 6634-2268

Whisky Tastings and Pairings at La Maison Du Whisky

The month of July will be a real busy one for Fine Spirits @ La Maison Du Whisky as they recommence their 'Fine Spirits' Tastings after the busy period of Whisky Live 2011. For the month of July there are two tastings:

Fine Spirits Session - Japan: July 12th

Fine Spirits Session - Whisky 101: July 26th

For the Japan whisky session, the star of the tasting session would be the Karuizawa Noh 15YO and the Whisky 101 Session is basically a more detailed look into whisky, its basics, and the history behind it. Tickets are $75/ticket, and seating is limited to 11 seats an event, so book early! For more information contact La Maison Du Whisky at info@whisky.sg or 6733-0059.

On top of the Fine Spirit Sessions, La Maison is also tying up with neighbours Brasserie Wolf for a Whisky Pairing dinner on the 20th July from 8pm onwards @ Brasserie Wolf itself. All guests are treated to a four course meal that is paired with 3 whiskies and a whisky liquor, the four being the Nikka All Malt, The Balvenie Doublewood, Ardbeg Blasda and The Macallan Amber. Tickets are available from City Nomads.

Monthly Events @ B28

Into it's first month of official business, B28 is now starting to get into its stride and it has started a host of great events for July. Their recurring event is a weekly Jazz showcase on Fridays called The Basement Sessions and it boasts some of the most talented musicians in Singapore's Jazz scene. The sessions start at 11pm, and there is a cover charge for the nights of these sessions. Seating is limited so remember to make your reservations by contacting Mike at mikesoldner@me.com.

On top of that, B28 will also play host to a second Diageo World Class Champion on Saturday, 2nd July. Amanda Wan, Diageo World Class Champion Malaysia 2010 will be teaming up with resident bartender Aubrey Sim, herself a Diageo World Class Champion for Singapore in 2009. This should be interesting!

The Singapore Whisky Club

The Singapore Whisky Club started in June 2011 under the leadership of Emmanuel Dron, owner of The Auld Alliance, and is a club that tastes some of the best whiskies ever in the history of the water of life. Last month, the club had a Laphroaig tasting where they tried a Laphroaig from Berry Brothers and Rudd that was a 1908 vintage, and the Laphroaig Bonfanti, which is till today Serge Valentin's favourite Laphroaig expression. This month, the club will be tasting a Macallan from each decade starting from the 1950s to the 1990s. Membership is limited and by invitation, but for those not able to be part of the club, one can try the amazing whiskies tasted at the bar itself after the official tasting for the club itself.

New Whiskies and Whisky Offers

New Whiskies + Whisky of the Month @ Quaich Bar

From this month onwards, Quaich Bar and parent company The Whisky Store Pte Ltd are proud to announce that they will be distributing Glenglassaugh whisky in Singapore. A distillery that has only recently resumed operations in 2008, it will be reaching its magic 3 year mark (the age where you can legally called the product whisky) in 2011, so look forward to some interesting new releases from this distillery which has been granted a new lease of life! Currently the Quaich Bar carries stock of the older expressions of Glenglassaugh, namely the 21YO and 30YO expressions.

Interestingly enough, the 21YO is one of the three whiskies that are the Whiskies of the Month at Quaich Bar this month. Along with the Springbank CV ($229) and the Hazelburn ($306), the Glenglassaugh 21YO ($680) is available at the bar for patrons at the highlighted rates.
