As part of Sgwhisky's continuous coverage of the various places to get a good dram in Singapore, here is the next featured whisky haven for all you whisky lovers out there, The Highlander Bar.
Nestled right in the heart of one of Singapore's most famous nightspots, Clarke Quay, The Highlander Bar lays claim to be one of the first whisky bars to open in Singapore. Opening its doors in November of 2006, The Highlander Bar has grown from strength to strength and has built a reputation for being one of the most famous whisky bars in our sunny island! The Highlander Bar takes great pride in celebrating the spiritual home of whisky, Scotland, in more ways than one. From the tartan outfits worn by the staff, to the authentic Scottish grub served and the photographs of Scotland adorning the walls of the establishment, The Highlander Bar is proud to celebrate the heritage of Scotland.
One of the main highlights of the bar, of course, is the extensive whisky collection that it has. Boasting over 250 whiskies, from the famous daily drams to the extremely rare, The Highlander Bar has a whisky collection that caters to all, from the novice drinker to the connoisseur. Of particular note is the Macallan 19 Year Old Highlander Series, which was bottled specially for the Highlander Bar itself, with only 50 bottles available. Those afraid that the Scottish outlook would mean that the other whiskies of the world would be neglected need not fear either as the bar also serves a good selection of whiskies/bourbons from other countries like Japan and America. On top of this wide selection of whiskies available at the bar, The Highlander Bar also organizes monthly tastings to showcase the various whiskies they have available. Held usually on the first Thursday of every month, these tastings are a great way to introduce customers and whisky lovers to the bar as well as its extensive selection of whiskies.
Aside from the whiskies, the Highlander Bar also boasts a wide selection of cocktails, wines and beers, making it an ideal place to chill out regardless of your drink of choice. The bar also has its very own selection of three draught beers and ales, all of which are really rich and enjoyable for those who prefer a good beer over the water of life!
Another thing that The Highlander Bar has to offer besides a wide selection of beverages is a great array of Scottish food. With authentic dishes like Tattie scones, Scotch Eggs and Angus Steak Burgers, the bar serves up great bar food to go with one's beverage of choice. The wide selection also makes this place ideal for a good dinner if one feels like having a proper meal at Clarke Quay.
Come nightfall at 10pm daily, the interior of the bar is filled with the delightful live music performed by the resident band, Dejavu, which plays the very best of rock, pop and R&B music. The bar also screens live sports telecasts of selected sports events like the F1 and football, making this place as much a bar and nightspot as it is a whisky haven. With a total seating capacity of 166, with about 90 indoors and 76 alfresco seats, The Highlander Bar can accommodate plenty of people and cater to a wide variety of wants, be it a great dram, good food or delightful music. In many ways, then, one can say that The Highlander Bar is a bar which caters to many needs, and is an establishment befitting of its vibrant locality.
In essence, The Highlander Bar is one great place to experience the nightlife of Singapore, the culture of Scotland as well as immerse yourself in a great whisky experience.
